“I Still Believe in Integrity, Character and Trust” - Carlos Cascos

His Community Service
Throughout his adult life, Carlos has demonstrated his dedication and commitment to our County and to public service.  He has served our community by participating in the United Way, Leadership Brownsville, Tip of Texas Girl Scouts, Sunrise Rotary Club, Knights of Columbus and many more civic organizations.

At the County level, he served as a County Commissioner, representing Precinct 2 for three consecutive terms, beginning in 1991 through 2002 (Judge Pro-tem for 10 years) and currently sits on the Cameron Appraisal District. At the State level Carlos was appointed by Governor Perry to the Department of Public Safety Commission, Hurricane Task Force to study evacuations and logistics and Chairman of the Border Security Council, to evaluate border security.

Carlos was elected County Judge in 2006. During his first term he has brought transparency, ethics and integrity back to the County Judge’s office and Cameron County. He has led the way in balancing four budgets, keeping our tax rate amongst the lowest along the border and making sure that our tax dollars are invested efficiently. Cameron County has been awarded numerous awards regarding its’ programs and more recently, the Gold Award for online financial transparency awarded by the Texas State Comptroller.

Under Carlos’s leadership infrastructure projects have finally broken ground and will soon be under construction, indigent health care has been expanded, parks have been either constructed or improved and a comprehensive regional drainage plan is underway.

His Profession
Carlos is a Certified Public Accountant and is a partner in the regional accounting firm of Pattillo, Brown & Hill, LLP.  He is a Certified Government Financial Manager and Diplomat for the Board of Forensic Accountants.  Being a CPA gives Carlos a good understanding of budgets and finances, which is a valuable tool to have during these uncertain economic times.  The ability to understand and balance budgets, without affecting county services is critical to sustaining county government.

His Personal Background
Cameron County has been Carlos’s home for over 55 years. He has been married to Candi Gonzalez for 33 years and they have two daughters, Casandra and Andrea. Carlos received a Bachelor of Arts degree from UT Austin, attended Texas Southmost College and Brownsville Public Schools.

His Basic Philosophy
“Public service is simply about serving the public, making decisions based strictly on what is best for the community as a whole and insuring that our tax dollars are invested and spent wisely. Public service should not be about self dealing, control, cronyism or turning a blind eye to corruption.”
